Spread betting strategies: This week in the stock markets
[Posted on 27/07/09]
Following the recent strong rallies across major equity indices, short term indicators are now looking frothy and we may see some pullback.
Those holding spread betting positions should note that there are a number of important economic reports due out this week. Anyone of these could trigger the anticipate pullback.
The key data points to look for are probably the report on US Durable Goods Orders on Wednesday and then the big one—data on US GDP in the second quarter is released on Friday.
Monday 27th
US: New Home Sales, Dallas Fed Manufacturing Activity
UK: Hometrack Housing Survey
Tuesday 28th
US: S&P/CaseShiller Home Price Index
UK: U.K. CBI July Distributive Trades
Wednesday 29th
US: Durable Goods Orders, Fed's Beige Book
UK: Mortgage Approvals
Thursday 30th
US: Initial Jobless Claims, Continuing Claims
UK: Nationwide House prices
Friday 31st
US: GDP QoQ (Annualized), Chicago Purchasing Manager
UK: GfK Consumer Confidence Survey
As you consider your spread betting strategy for the week ahead, remember that it pays to remain on the right side of the market!
