Spread betting opportunities : Financial market update
Equity markets ended the week on a bullish note, although the makjor indices finished off their highs on Friday. In New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 59.99 points on Friday to end the week at 13371.72. That was however over 95 spreadbetting points off the intra-day high for the index. The S&P500 index finished at 1481.14, up 11.42 at the end of Friday's session. That represented a total weekly gain of 40.44 or 2.81% for the bellwelther index. The Nasdaq Composite index bucked the uptrend on Friday, ending the day marginally lower at 2660.96 (down 7.17). However, that still amounted to a cummulative gain of 2.48% (64.36 points) for the week. In London, the FTSE 100 index benefited from the strong opening on Wall Street on Friday, with the major risers being mining and banking stocks. Overall, the Footsie ended the week strongly, with a move of 83.4 points (1.31%) in Friday's trading session. That brought the gains for the week to a total of 170.4 points (2.72%). Elsewhere, the techMARK index ended Friday at 1,524.83, up +0.60% and the FTSE 250 index gained +0.79% to close at 10,748.80.
