Spread betting opportunities : Financial market update


Wednesday saw another impressive rally in equity markets with the Dow producing the best two-day rally in about five years.

Technology stocks led the rally and by the closing bell, the Nasdaq Composite index was up 3.18% (82.11 points) to finish at 2662.91. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rallied over 331 spreadbetting points (2.55%) to close at 13289.45, and the S&P500 index gained 2.86%, adding 40.79 points to end the session at 1469.02.

In London, the FTSE 100 gained 165.5 points, adding 2.7% to close at 6306.2. other UK indices were also up, with the FTSE 250 adding 2.92% and the techMARK index gaining 2.27%.

The rally in blue chip stocks was so strong that only 2 of the leading 100 stocks failed to record a gain for the day. The two outliers were Resolution and National Grid which were broadly flat for the day.
