Spread betting opportunities : Financial market update
US equity markets staged a strong rally on the day after Thanksgiving. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 1.42%, showing a gain of 181.84 spread betting points to end the week at 12980.88. That was however, still a move of over 195 spreadbetting points lower for the week.
Likewise, the S&P 500 index was 18.04 points lower for the week despite the gain of 23.93 points on Friday. On a similar note, the Nasdaq Composite index finished Friday with a gain of 34.45 to end at 2596.6 but nevertheless, recorded a loss of 40.64 points for the week as a whole.
In London, the FTSE100 continued the strong move that began on Thursday with a further gain of 106.8 spreadbetting points, to end the day up 1.74% at 6262.1. The strong end to the week meant that the Footsie was able to recover from a very weak early period in the week to finish down only 29.1 points overall—despite having been down as much as 264.3 points at the intra-week low.
Elsewhere in the London market, the techMARK index closed at 1,505.49 for a gain of 1.25% on Friday. The FTSE 250 added 2.10% to finish at 10,531.20 for the session.
