Spread betting opportunities : Financial market update


Equity indices staged a relief rally on Wall Street on Tuesday afternoon, recovering from early losses to finish the session higher across the board.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was 51.7 spreadbetting points better off at the close, finishing at 13010.14 for the day. The Nasdaq Composite index inched higher to close at 2596.81, having suffered heavy losses initially. The S&P 500 index ended the day at 1439.70, up 6.43 points (0.45%) for the session.

Stocks in London received a boosts from the strength in real estate stocks and a bullish start on Wall Street. The FTSE100 delivered a gain of 1.73% for the session, adding 105.7 points to end the day at 6226.5. ICAP joined the real estate stocks Land Securities Group and British Land on the leader board in the London market while Northern Rock was once again the main loser among UK blue chip stocks. The FTSE 250 was 0.92% higher while the techMARK index lost 0.12%.
