The equity markets finally snapped back from previously oversold levels on Tuesday, rising by the largest margins seen in two months. The advance was led by strong gains in the technology sector where the Nasdaq Composite index delivered a gain of 3.46%, adding 89.52 points to finish the day at 2673.65. The S&P 500 index moved 41.87 (2.91%) points higher to finish at 1481.05. The Dow was the marginal laggard for the session, with a move of 2.46%—spreadbetting 319.54 points. The index finished Tuesday’s session at 13307.09.

In London, the Footsie’s gains were much more muted as the London markets had closed before the strong gains in New York materialised. Still, the FTSE 100 index rose by 0.39%, adding 24.5 points to end at 6362.4. The notable riser among the FTSE 100 shares was Vodafone with bumper gains of over 7%. Elsewhere, the techMARK rose by 0.89% and the FTSE250 gained 0.24% for the session.
